“The unending problem of growing old was not how he changed, but how things did.”
Toni Morrison, Tar Baby, 1981
Things change---sometimes dramatically. I am looking at contemporary culture retrospectively; evaluating its legacy while still in its midst; imagining its ruins. I have chosen the commonplace as material---physical remains, detritus of compulsive consumption. The relentless obsolescing of things that once briefly consoled a nagging lust for newness constitutes a history no one has time to consider: merely an endless trail of vaguely familiar debris.
